Dr Gavin Lenz is a qualified orthodontist in Brisbane CBD, Annerley, Windsor and Mooloolaba. Dr Gavin Lenz has spent the majority of his life in different parts of Australia. He graduated as a dentist from the University of Queensland in December 1990. He then joined the Royal Australian Air Force and worked as a Dental Officer for 6 years in general practice dentistry. During this time he resided in Townsville, Canberra, Adelaide and Sydney. In 1996, Dr Gavin Lenz was awarded Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons: a qualification awarded to a small percentage of Australian dentists.

In 1997, Dr Gavin Lenz was accepted to the orthodontic program at the University of Melbourne. His training was completed in 1999 and he was awarded Master of Dental Science.

Dr Gavin Lenz has since worked as an orthodontist for short periods of time in Rockhampton, Queensland; Wellington, New Zealand; Cambridge, U.K.; and Toronto, Canada.

In Toronto he worked at the Hospital for Sick Children, aiding in the treatment of complex patients including those with Cleft Lip and Palate, and other craniofacial anomalies. Dr Gavin Lenz works part-time at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Brisbane, continuing his work within this specialised area.

Dr Gavin Lenz has remained associated with the University of Queensland School of Dentistry, teaching at both the undergraduate and post-graduate level.

He is married with a young son and daughter and besides uninterrupted sleep, enjoys bushwalking, cycling, surfing and reading.

Dr Emily Ong is a qualified orthodontist in Brisbane CBD, Annerley and Windsor.

Dr Emily Ong has spent the majority of her life on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane. She studied Dentistry at the University of Queensland where she graduated with honours in 2002. Since graduation, she has worked in both public and private dental practices in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.

In 2005, Dr Emily Ong completed her Primary Examinations with commendations in four disciplines. She was awarded Member of The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (MRACDS).

Dr Emily Ong completed her orthodontic training at the University of Queensland and continues to remain an active member of the Australian Dental Association and Orthodontic Society.

She enjoys tennis, touch football and netball.

Invisalign®

Invisalign® treatment involves a series of clear, plastic, removable aligners that are used to move your teeth to the desired position. These are fantastic for those individuals for whom a limited amount of movement of the teeth is necessary, and aesthetics and function are of paramount importance.

Self Ligating Braces

Self Ligating Braces do not need O-rings or wire ties to hold the wire in. Self Ligating Braces may offer certain advantages over conventional and ceramic braces including fewer appointments in total due to longer inter-appointment intervals, shorter appointment time. These brackets may also be easier to clean which reduces the risk of decay or gum disease.

Ceramic Braces (Clear Braces, Tooth Coloured Braces)

Clear Braces are much less obvious as they are tooth coloured and blend in very well with your teeth.

Lingual Braces

Lingual Braces are attached to the inside surface of the teeth (at the back of the teeth) and cannot be seen. They certainly look great! It may take time for the tongue to adapt. Treatment with Lingual Braces may take longer overall and each adjustment appointment takes longer than Conventional Braces.

Conventional (Stainless Steel) Braces, Coloured Braces

Conventional Braces are the most popular in most orthodontics practices. They require either wire ties or elastic ties (O-rings) to hold the wire in the braces. We have many different coloured O-rings to give you coloured braces. You can customise your braces and your smile every time you see us!

It is important to remember these different types of braces are tools to enable us to create the ideal smile for you. So the decision, in most cases, is up to you!

It is very important that your teeth are clean and your gums are healthy.

During the appointment the following will occur:

• Your teeth will be cleaned with special toothpaste and a toothbrush that is similar to an electric toothbrush.
• A check retractor is placed.
• Your teeth are washed and dried and prepared for the braces to be placed. The braces are glued to your teeth. A bright light is used to set the glue.
• When all of the braces are bonded to your teeth, horseshoe shaped wires are placed, one for the upper teeth and one for the lower teeth. These wires pass through a little slot in each brace and are held in place by very small elastic bands. These “elastics” may be grey to blend with the brace or you may wish to choose from our wide selection of colours. No elastics are necessary if you choose our self-ligating brackets.

Your braces have now been now placed! All that remains is for us to explain how with a simple routine, to keep your braces free from damage, check for breakages and keep your teeth and braces clean.

We will teach you how to look after your braces and teeth. We will show you how to keep your teeth healthy and to help treatment to be efficient and effective. The following information will assist you to care for your braces.

Keeping appointments

• The braces are squeezed and this enables the braces to come loose from your teeth. A small amount of dental glue normally remains on the teeth.
• This small amount of dental glue is polished off the teeth with a dental handpiece. Only the dental glue is polished off the teeth. Although it may feel a bit strange, it does not hurt.
• Then the teeth are cleaned thoroughly, including around the gums.
• Impressions of the teeth are taken so that retainers can be made.
• Photographs are normally taken so that we have a record of your finished result.
