It may take a little time to adjust to your new braces. As expected, each individual is different. Some people experience very little discomfort. On average, you can expect some discomfort for the first few days. It will also take time for the cheeks, lips and teeth to adjust to the braces. Things to keep in mind
It is very important to clean your teeth and braces thoroughly. If you do not keep you teeth clean, you will be susceptible to gum disease and tooth decay.
- Please remember to brush after each meal or snack.
- Be sure to take your travel toothbrush everywhere with you.
- We all know that clean teeth look fantastic!
- You can use FlossFish to make it easier to clean your teeth.
- Please let us know if you have any questions or if your braces becomed loose at any stage.
- Please use the wax supplied to cover any parts of the braces that are causing irritation to the cheeks or lips.
- Please remember to keep your scheduled appointments. Please contact us if you can’t attend your appointment. We will make alternative arrangements as soon as possible. If you don’t attend your scheduled appointments, your orthodontic treatment may take longer
- Let us know if you play contact sport. We will provide you with a mouthguard.
Things to avoid
- Avoid biting or chewing hard food. Certain foods, such as nuts, crusty breads and ice cubes should be avoided.
- Avoid large pieces of food. Foods such as meat, carrots and apples should be cut into small pieces.
- Avoid playing with your braces with your fingers, fingernails or tongue.
- Avoid eat sticky sweets, lollies, chocolate bars etc.
- Avoid sweet, sugary, and acidic drinks such as cordials, soft drinks or sport drinks. These drinks are acidic and may cause erosion of your teeth.
